I.                    Repentance Defined

 

A.       Metanio – (noun): To change one’s mind

B.       Metanoeo – (verb): To turn or return one’s mind to God

C.       Repentance denotes a radical turning from sin to a new way of life oriented towards God.

 

II.                 2 Corinthians 7:8-13

 

A.       7:8 – This verse refers to the 3rd letter that Paul had written to the Corinthians. It had caused the people to begin to change.

B.       7:10 – Repentance is for the Jew & the Gentile – All of us

C.       7:11 – The effects of true repentance

D.       7:12 – A reference to 1 Corinthians 5:1-2

 

III.               Regret, Remorse, & Repentance

 

A.       Regret is being sorry – Mentally: King Saul

B.       Remorse is being sorry – Mentally & Emotionally: Judas

C.       Repentance is being sorry – Mentally, Emotionally, & Volitionally: Ninevah

 

IV.              Steps to Repentance

 

A.       Acknowledge Sin / Have a Soft Heart

B.       Laying down our Pride

C.       No “Cheap Grace”

D.       Moving on

 

        Repentance Equals Reconciliation
